Giving up your tax cut in the name of Education
Right now Oklahoma City Schools are facing nearly 9 million dollars in budget cuts, but now there is a new push to revitalize our struggling system and replenish funds.
A grass roots movement gaining traction on twitter right now titled 'Give Back OK' encourages the community to give back their tax cut and donate it to your OKC ISD school of choice. "If the legislators aren't going to do this we are going to take care of this ourselves and give the money back to our schools," Oklahoma PTA Communications Director Jeffery Corbett, "If our legislators aren't going to make a stand for public education and give us back this money in a tax cut that is ridiculous in a time to have this budget deficit that is almost a billion dollars."
Receiving cuts in the budget since 2008, ours is one of the hardest hit in the nation.
"We have teachers who's pay is so minimal compared to other states around us yet they're buying school supplies to take care of the students in their class it's ridiculous," Corbett said.
If you are interested in donating your tax cut to local school Corbett encourages you to contact your schools Administrative Director or their local PTA organization.
