OKCFD: Early morning fire leaves 3 dead, one in the hospital
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
The Oklahoma City Fire Department is reporting three people have died in a fire in the 200 block of N. Blackwelder Ave.
OKCFD was called out about 4:30 a.m. Saturday for a reported house fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene, a fire official said, they found a two story home with visible flames, the home was thought to be vacant, firefighters fought the blaze for about 40 minutes before it was brought under control.
A fire official said the fire did extend to a house next door and that home was also thought to be vacant, due to its being boarded up, after a search of the house one man was found and was taken to the hospital due to his having inhaled smoke.
Once the fire had been put out firefighters began searching the debris. A search of the house where the fire began led to the discovery of a dead person. The search of the house was continued into the afternoon and about 3 p.m. two additional bodies were found. Investigators were able to determine the bodies were that of a man and a woman.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and, according to an OKCFD spokesperson, a damage estimate for both houses was placed at $50,500, with the house where the fire began being a total loss.
