Cold, illness closes schools across Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Frigid temperatures and seasonal sicknesses are closing down a number of school districts across the state.
Union City Public Schools announced their buildings would be closed Tuesday due to a large number of students and staff sick with the flu. Officials say the district will also be closed Wednesday, and they hope to resume classes on Thursday.
John Rex Charter is also closing Tuesday due to widespread illness. School officials say about 20 percent of their students and staff are sick. Custodians will be at the school today sanitizing classrooms.
Crutcho Public Schools will also be shut down for the day.
A number of districts in the Tulsa area are closing today, but not for sick students and staff. They're citing extreme cold as the reasons behind the closures.
Tulsa, Okmulgee and Avant school districts are a few that have cancelled classes Tuesday. Officials said they didn't want to have students standing at at bus stops in frigid temperatures.
