BBB of Central Oklahoma warns of fake online retailers
Oklahoma City, Okla. (KOKH) —
If you're one of the millions of Americans who shops online, the Better Business Bureau of Central Oklahoma has a warning.
They're asking all Oklahomans to think before clicking, especially as the holiday shopping season approaches. They tell FOX 25 more and more reports of fake online retailers are being reported.
"Anytime there's a busy shopping season, where sales are going on, you're always going to see an uptick of different types of scams that might impact a consumer that's trying to do some shopping online," said Sean Rose, a spokesperson for the BBB of Central Oklahoma.
There are things you can look out for when shopping online to ensure where you are shopping is legitimate:
- Make sure the web address begins with "https." That "s" stands for security.
- Look at the maintenance of the website. If it looks out of date there is a good chance it's not legitimate.
- Look for grammatical errors. If you don't see contact numbers or e-mail addresses that is another red-flag.
