An El Reno man arrested for allegedly downloading child pornography told police he didn't know it was illegal.

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West reports that 61-year-old Richard Stowers, of El Reno, was arrested August 23. An investigation began after Stowers reportedly shared child pornography with members of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force of Canadian County.

Investigators then served a search warrant on his home. While performing the search, Stowers allegedly admitted to downloading child pornography but said he didn't know it was illegal. Authorities say Stowers computer was downloading child pornography at the time they served the search warrant.

Several electronic devices were seized from Stowers' home. He was later booked into the Canadian County Detention Center on two complaints of possession of child pornography.
