Loading up to fly out of town, 116 dogs were being saved from having to be euthanized at Oklahoma animal shelters.

"Not only is this our February Valentine's 'Love is in the Air' flight," Fetch-Fido-A-Flight founder Vikki Smith said. "But it's also our dedication flight to Bill Kinsinger and the work that he did."

Kinsinger disappeared on a flight from Oklahoma City last month and served as a board member for Fetch-Fido-A-Flight.

Smith has arranged 13 of these flights so far and another left on Saturday morning.

"These flights are absolutely so humbling when you see the number of animals coming that would have been euthanized had they not made it on this flight," Smith said.

The dogs came from shelters all across the metro that are just too full to take any more.

Smith said the lack of control of the animal population makes it hard on these shelters.

"Our shelters, even though we're taking 116 animals out of here today, they are still full and euthanizing this afternoon," she said. "So we have a huge problem in Oklahoma and we're never going to get on top of it unless we get some better spay and neuter laws enacted here."

Charlet Ringwald brought three dogs from the Enid animal shelter and said this is something that can be avoided if owners do their part.

"We need to really work on spay and neutering all of our animals," Ringwald said. "Keeping track of our animals. Getting your animals registered. Making sure they have their proper rabies shots."

She said these flights are a great way to help some of her animals.

"It gives them a chance at a second home and new life," Ringwald said. "It's really hopeful. It's really a beautiful thing."

This is the most dogs that have ever been taken on one flight.

Smith said the dogs will be taken to two shelters in Oregon where they will be adopted out immediately.
