Newcastle Public Schools head back to the classroom

Newcastle Public Schools kicked off their school year with FOX 25!

Malcolm Tubbs was on hand and learned about the district fill a backpack event and sports and clubs from Superintendent Tony O'Brien.

Newcastle extended their school day by a few hours and has moved to a four day school week as the state faces budget cuts.

Newcastle High School Principal Jennifer Beer said the high school has a peer program that helps freshman get acclimated to the school's procedures.

The Newcastle Early Childhood Center hosts kids from pre-k to first grade.

Malcolm also spoke with Newcastle High School football coach Keith Bolles. The school will host a scrimmage Aug. 16. The team kicks off the season Sept. 5 against Noble. Newcastle women's basketball took home the gold in 2016 at the state tournament. The team only lost one senior from the championship team.
