Community Focus: Centennial Health Clinic giving new life to NE 23 Street
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
There's new life on NE 23rd and Rhode Island. The Centennial Health Clinic is now open to the public.
You're greeted with a familiar face from Miss Reta Greene, the heart beat of the old clinic, and now the new.
"People come in and you don't know what they've been through and they tell me I make their days," Greene said.
Before the opening of the new clinic . The only option was the old clinic on 10th street. Doctor Charles Lunn says the lack of medical facilities on the eastside has weighed heavy on his patient's health.
"When I first came here 25 years ago, there was probably 8 to 10 doctors’ offices over here now before we got here, there's one," Lunn said.
Now patients like Robert Dale Goodson don't have to travel too far for a routine check-up
"It don't take me long to get here," Goodson said.
The 71 year-old retired construction worker now has access to preventable health care at a brand new facility.
"They just did a good job on this building, and I'm proud," Goodson said.
This is only a stepping stone to what's to come in this area; restaurants and retail shops are going to revive this area of the 23rd street, but it starts with a healthy heart first.
