A woman accused of abusing several horses earlier this year has pleaded guilty to animal abuse charges.
Billie Vandergriff pleaded guilty in Oklahoma County court Wednesday to two counts of animal abuse. Immediately after the plea, she was sentenced to 10 years for each count to run concurrently. She'll spend the first five years in prison.
Vandergriff was arrested in February by Oklahoma County deputies when they found one horse malnourished and a second one dead and buried. The investigation began when deputies were called about children living in filth in the family home.
At the time of the arrest, she claimed the charges were a misunderstanding and her daughter said they never meant to harm the horses.
