Winter weather advisory - Travel is hazardous

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Oklahoma until midnight Sunday.

The advisory calls for periods of freezing drizzle and rain with sleet and some snow. Wind chill is expected to below zero.
As of 7:30 p.m. the Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports that road conditions throughout most of the state are slick and hazardous. ODOT continues to strongly discourage traveling.

As temperatures continue to stay below freezing, drivers are encouraged to use caution as refreezing and black ice conditions are anticipated.

ODOT reports that roads in western and northwestern Oklahom are slick in spots with blowing snow causing visibilty issues in areas.

ODOT crews will continue to apply salt and sand to roads and bridges as well as plow accumulations throughout the evening and into early Monday.

Early Sunday, the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) suspended working non-injury accidents. Sunday morning accidents closed Lake Hefner Parkway from Britton to Memorial road. As of 9:00 a.m. a spokesperson for the police department said the parkway in that area was still closed.
Travel is not advised unless necessary. OCPD reports since 12:00 a.m. Sunday morning, during the time working non-injury accidents was suspended, 10 injury accidents and 35 non-injury accidents were discovered in the course of officers patrols.
Many churches in the Oklahoma City area have canceled services Sunday morning. You can go to Fox 25's closings page on our website for updates.
