West Virginia Pizza Hut manager caught on camera in unsanitary act
Security camera video led West Virginia health officials to shut down a pizza hut in Kermit, West Virginia, after an employee was caught on camera urinating in a sink.
The video, provided by WOWK-TV and later posted to YouTube, shows an employee urinating in the restaurant's kitchen sink. The same sink used to wash kitchen utensils and supplies.
Pizza Hut corporate officials confirm the man is a district manager, and has been fired.
In a written statement to WOWK-TV, Pizza Hut said:
"First of all, we are embarrassed by the actions of this individual. Pizza Hut has zero tolerance for violations of our operating standards, and the local owner of the restaurant took immediate action and terminated the employee involved. While the isolated incident occurred during non-business hours and did not involve any food tampering, we follow strict safety and handling procedures and the restaurant has since been closed. We apologize to our customers of Kermit, West Virginia and those in our system who have been let down by this situation."
Mingo County Health Department officials say it could be days or even weeks before they consider reopening the Pizza Hut.
