As the government shutdown looms, it will have a ripple effect on federal operations throughout the country, including here in Oklahoma. On Monday, Ken LaFayette, Public Affairs Chief of Media for 72d ABW, said military personnel would remain on regular duty status but some civilian personnel will be furloughed.LaFayette said the personnel who are paid by appropriated funds would be on furlough, unless they are exempt for the "minimum number necessary to accomplish excepted activities that are essential to national security and safety.Capital fund employees are expected to be exempt from furlough as long as working capital funds are available. All personnel are asked to report as usual on Tuesday where non-excepted, excepted, and exempt employees would be given direction for duty."We remain hopeful that the budget uncertainty will be resolved prior to the expiration of appropriations.{} A shutdown would put severe hardships on an already stressed workforce," LaFayette said.More information on the looming shutdown is available here.
