Sooner Tea Party leader guilty of blackmail, computer crimes

OKLAHOMA CITY — A jury found Al Gerhart guilty of the charges against him Wednesday night. Gerhart is the leader and co-founder of the Sooner Tea Party.The judge will decide a punishment. The jury recommended Gerhart serve no jail time and pay a $1,000 fine.Charges were pressed against Gerhart last April after he sent an email to state Senator Cliff Branan, (R) Oklahoma City. In the email Gerhart wrote Sen. Branan should hear a bill "or I will make sure you regret not doing it." Branan said he felt threatened by the email.Gerhart's trial began Monday in an Oklahoma County District Court.
