Two people are in police custody after a liquor store was robbed and the owner shot at the suspects before being shot himself.
Police say they were near the intersection of SW 44th and May to investigate a stabbing when they heard gunshots coming from Lucky's Liquor Store.
When police arrived, they saw 50-year-old Brett Cude shooting at a vehicle that was speeding away from the business. Officers say they pulled their weapons and shot at Cude, who was not identified as the store owner at the time.
The vehicle crashed into an oncoming semi truck at SW 44th and Drexel. That's when police say the two men inside climbed out of the car and tried to run but were arrested in a back yard near SW 47th and Drexel.
Police say the two men inside the car were 32-year-old Tucson Redd and a 17-year-old were both arrested for robbery. Redd had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The teen suffered minor injuries in the crash but because of his age, his name will not be released.
Cude was also shot multiple times and taken to a local hospital. He's listed as stable.
Police have not determined who shot Cude and are conducting an internal review of the incident.
The officers involved, Sgt. Cody Koelsh and Officer Bradley May were both placed on paid administrative leave.
