Rapper arrested for allegedly inciting riot at SXSW

Rapper Tyler, the Creator was arrested by Austin police after being accused of starting a riot during a concert Thursday at the South by Southwest music festival.

According to the Austin Police Department, the 23-year-old rapper (whose real name is Tyler Oknoma) was arrested Saturday and charged with Riot-Class A misdemeanor.

Police say during a concert at South by Southwest Thursday the rapper encouraged behavior causing immediate danger and injury to persons.

Oknoma is accused of encouraged the large crowd at the Scoot Inn on more than one occasion to force themselves past employees who were controlling access to the venue. The venue was at full capacity at the time of the concert.

Affidavits filed in the case say a bartender at the venue was punched in the face as he attempted to help a girl who fell to the ground. The bartender told police he was attempting to stop the girl from being trampled by the crowd.

The rapper's remaining concerts at the festival were canceled.

Earlier in the week, two South by Southwest attendees were killed and 23 were injured when a man drove his car through a crowd.
