(KHOU) -- A Houston man is behind bars and accused of kidnapping a 6-year-old girl while his pregnant wife was in labor at the hospital.

23-year-old Joaquin Ramos allegedly pulled alongside the girl in an apartment parking lot and grabbed the girl despite her efforts to run away. Her mother was nearby unloading their car at the time of the kidnapping.

But this little girl was too smart for Ramos. He stopped at a Target store for a bathroom break, allowing her to take one as well. It was while inside she told a customer, who in turn told employees and went in the bathroom to keep her there safely.

Ramos escaped, but was arrested the next day at the hospital where his wife had just given birth to their fourth child.

The aunt of the kidnapped girl told KHOU "Now that he's caught, he's going to know what they do to guys in jail like him. So he's going to pay for what he was trying to do or what he did to other little girls that we do not know about. And he's going to pay in jail because we already know what they do to guys like that in jail."
