An investigation is ongoing after a man died in police custody Monday evening.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers were dispatched at 9:45 p.m. to the area of SE 32nd St. and S. Byers Ave. in reference to a suspect attempting to break into cars and homes.
When officers arrived they observed that several citizens had the 45-year-old suspect detained.
Officers called for EMSA suspecting that the subject's condition might make a turn for the worse based on past experiences though the suspect had no visible injuries.
Police observed the suspect stop breathing prior to EMSA's arrival. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m.
The suspect was found to have outstanding felony warrants and the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.
The name of the suspect has not been released while police attempt to notify his next of kin.
