OU student killed, another injured when truck goes off cliff in Arizona

TORTILLA FLAT, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say one University of Oklahoma student from China is dead and another injured after a pickup truck went off a cliff on an Arizona highway.

The state Department of Public Safety says the female driver was killed and that the male passenger had severe head injuries but was able to call for help early Wednesday morning.

Identities of the victims were not released.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves says it's not immediately known why the truck went off the 200-foot cliff.

News video showed the damaged truck at the bottom of a cliff. State Route 88 makes a sharp turn at the top of the cliff.

The highway is a twisting, scenic route in the Tonto National Forest between the Phoenix area's eastern fringe and Roosevelt Dam.
