OSBI investigates shooting by Ada off-duty officer

ADA — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has been called in to investigate an officer involved shooting by an Ada police officer.The shooting happened about 5:00 p.m. Friday evening at a Wal-Mart parking lot by an off duty officer. A Wal-Mart employee had notified police of a shoplifter at the store. The off duty officer was at the store and heard the call dispatched. The officer waited for the suspect to leave the store before attempting to apprehend him.The suspect entered a waiting vehicle which then left the scene. In the process of fleeing the vehicle nearly hit the officer. The officer fired her handgun at the vehicle. An off-duty Roff reserve officer was also on the scene and fired their weapon as well. No injuries from the gunfire were reported.The suspect, Cordell Tebet, 26, was apprehended after a short pursuit and taken into custody on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and eluding an officer.The Ada Police Department requested OSBI investigate the shooting. When OSBI agents complete the investigation a report will be given to the district attorney.
