Oklahoma man shot by officers charged with possession of illegal firearms

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- An Oklahoma City man who was shot by an officer after a car chase has been charged with illegal firearm possession.44-year-old Jimmie Alfred Wheeler was charged Wednesday in Cleveland County court with possessing a firearm after a felony conviction and attempting to elude police.Police Capt. Tom Easley has said officers were investigating reports of a suspicious person and vehicle Saturday afternoon when Wheeler drove away. Police chased his vehicle until it crashed.An officer shot Wheeler after the chase. They say a .22 caliber handgun was found inside his vehicle's passenger compartment.Wheeler is being held at the Cleveland County Jail on $40,000 bond. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney for Wheeler.
