The Oklahoma Lottery has issued a warning against a potential scam impacting residents.
According to the lottery, the scam attempts to trick citizens into believing they've won a lump sum of money. The scam is primarily focused around the Mega Millions game.
Officials say the scam phone calls come from the area code 876. During the scam, the caller tells the victim they have won a large sum of money and/or additional prizes. The victim is then asked to pay taxes on the prize in up-front payments.
All lottery prizes of over $600 must be claimed in person at an authorized Oklahoma Lottery Claim Center or at the lottery headquarters.
Anyone who receives a call they think may be a potential scam should contact the Attorney General's Office at 405-521-3921 or the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357.
