For many Oklahoma DMV patrons, it's the same routine, walk through the door, grab a number, take a seat, and wait in a long line.
"I've waited over three hours," said Freddie Williams, recalling a past DMV experience as he waited at the South Oklahoma City DMV.
Williams only shuffled his feet for a few minutes before he reached the front of the line Thursday afternoon, but he still remembers all the hassle in dealt with during his past DMV visits.
"I got up to the front of the line, and I got to whoever was helping me, I had the wrong information, I had to come back and wait another hour and a half," he said.
Long waits have become the norm for many DMV locations across the state.
"It can't be overstated, how inconvenient the past system has been," said Rep. Jason Murphey (R- Guthrie).
Inconvenience and hassle at DMV have state officials working to make long lines and long waits a thing of the past. DMV patrons can now schedule appointments for a driver's test online.
"It's going to save people some time and we're hoping a lot of frustration," said Trooper Betsy Randolph, a spokesperson for Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Instead of waking up early to guarantee an appointment, DMV patrons can use the "InLine Online" system to make appointments at the South Oklahoma City location. The system will be available at the Edmond, Norman, Tulsa Eastgate, Tulsa West, and Broken Arrow DMV locations in the next few weeks.
"Right now it is free," said Trooper Randolph, "and so we ask folks to try it out, number one, it's going to help you, and number two, it's going to help us, because we are going to be able to work out the bugs if there are any."
Trevor Satterlee used the InLine Online system to make his appointment Thursday afternoon.
"It's been very easy," said Satterlee.
If the test run of InLine Online goes well, state officials plan to implement the scheduling system at all DMV locations.
