OKCPD: homeless man arrested after attacking mail carrier

A homeless man was arrested Monday afternoon after Oklahoma City Police say he attacked a female postal worker while she was on her route.Police say Bennie Edwards Jr., 54, was arrested in the 12000 block of Victoria Place Monday around 3:30 p.m.Police said they were called by a postal worker who said she was attacked by a man with a sharp object. Police said when they spoke with the woman, she had several holes in her shirt and at least one puncture wound to her back left shoulderThe postal worker told police that Edwards was sitting on the front porch of a home that she was delivering mail to when he stood up and attacked her. She said she thought he used a paring knife to stab her.According to the police report, his mother lives at the home but Edwards does not and never has. Police did say his mother gives him food every from time to time. Police also said Edwards comes and goes from the porch.Edwards was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on assault with a deadly weapon charges. The postal carrier did not need medical attention and returned to her route.
