OKCPD officers give Christmas to kids
25 kids shop with a cop looking for gifts for their families.
Kamilah Bennett is ready to shop til' she drops.
"I'm going to shop with a cop today. I'm ready to go shoe shopping"
She has five people to buy for on her Christmas list...
"My auntie, me, grandma, Bethany, Amina."
But Kamilah has a little hesitation with her shopping partner, Captain Dexter Nelson with Oklahoma City Police.
"I assured her I was a shopping professional. I have done this before," said Captain Nelson.
Kamilah and Captain Nelson are part of this year's Heroes and Helpers, a program for underprivileged children to buy Christmas gifts for their families alongside a police officer. This is the sixth year Oklahoma City Police has sponsored the event. Each kid is given 100-dollars to spend on gifts and a goodie bag to go home with.
Kamilah said she had a blast shopping but the best part will be giving the gifts to her family on Christmas.
"I'm really excited to see their face."
While we were filming this story a woman donated all the money in her wallet to the organization. That turned out to be 1,800 dollars.
