OHP: officer and suspect exchange gun fire in pursuit

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says one of its officers was shot at by a driver trying to run from law enforcement.

An OHP State Trooper pulled over a car just before 11:00 Thursday night on H.E. Bailey Turnpike near Elgin for a traffic violation. The trooper had the vehicle pulled over when the driver hit the gas.

During the pursuit, the OHP says the driver fired a long rifle at the officer. The trooper returned fire. Neither the officer or the suspect were hit by the gunshots.

The chase lasted about 15 miles until the OHP says the driver pulled over and ran from the scene. The OHP set up a perimeter near the Fletcher/Elgin area. At 8:30 Friday morning, OHP says they got their man, arresting 19-year-old Kwade Sanderson of Festus, Missouri.

Sanderson was booked into the Comanche County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
