National Zoo's panda cub named
WASHINGTON D.C. —
At age 100 days the panda cub at the Smithsonian's National Zoo has been named.
Bao Bao was one of five names offered to the public for online voting and won by getting 123,039 votes. The name translated from Mandarin Chinese into English as "treasure" or "precious".
Bao Bao is expected to make a public debut in January 2014. The cub will stay at the National Zoo until she is four years old when she will be transported to the China Conservation and Research Center in Wolong, Sichuan, China.
