Mom catches a man playing with himself at the mall
NORMAN — A mom in the metro has a warning for other parents, after an incident at Sooner Mall in Norman. She said she was waiting for the stores to open Monday morning when she caught a man playing with himself. The man was sitting in the child's play area of the mall while watching a little girl play, she said. She found a security guard, but by the time they got back, the man was gone. The mom went to Facebook with her story:"A mother and her daughter were there playing, and there was an older man sitting at the other end. He was staring at the girl playing, and then put his hand in his pants. I won't go into more detail, but it was obvious as to what he was doing..."I wanted to warn parents to watch for this guy, and others like him. Stay off your phones and stay aware, not only of your child, but the others there watching. The mother that was there was on her phone and didn't see him."She also posted a detailed description of the man. The post was shared more than 4,000 times. A Norman police officer was one of the people it reached. The department contacted the mother and had her file a report. Police Capt. Tom Easley said mall security was able to help detectives track down the suspect, recognizing the description of the man as a man who frequents Sooner Mall to walk."We contacted the suspect, he was interviewed by detectives and we'll see where it goes from here," Easley said. The mom also wants to warn parents there are no security cameras at the mall, but she's hoping that will change."I'm not going to drop it, we need security cameras. It's 2014 a lot of scary things happen," she said.A mall spokesperson said there is a sophisticated security protocol in place at Sooner Mall, but she would not divulge any more information, saying that might compromise it. She said the security of customers and employees is a top priority and that the mall is taking this incident seriously.
