Jaime's Favorite Things: District 21
OKLAHOMA CITY —
I have something you have to try. If you love food and you love supporting young people in their passions... this is one YUMMY way to do both. Have you been to District 21 yet? It is the newest addition to the Culinary School at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. The restaurant has a beautiful grand entrance with patio seating. It looks like any nice restaurant you may want to check out around the metro. The kitchen is big and clean and you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs at work. Those chefs, of course, are high school students learning the restaurant business. District 21 is literally their classroom. This is where they learn knife skills, how to create soups, salads, etc. The best part about it (for us!!) is... District 21 is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 6-8:30pm. The price point is rather reasonable. You can get a four course meal from $20-$28. The food looks gorgeous. You'd think you were in a high end French restaurant. I had the tomato dish with sun dried tomato, cheese, and balsamic "caviar". The mushroom tart was amazing with mushrooms cooked with TRUFFLE BUTTER, oil, and shallots. I could have just parked myself in front of this dish all day long. Then for dessert, we have the Lemon curd with homemade coconut sorbet.
Almost everything (except the cheeses) is made here. The students do all the work in this top notch facility where the focus is to spark students' interest, curiosity, and creativity and become the driving force behind what could become successful cooking careers here in OKC... which, of course, means more great things for us to eat!! Hooray!!
Good luck, Francis Tuttle Culinary students... go make us something yummy. :)
See you at 9!
P.S... Why the name District 21? It's for the school district they are in!
