Hustler's Larry Flynt to open adult store in the Metro

A big name in the porn industry makes its way to the Metro. Hustler magazine's Larry Flynt owns the chain of retail stores called Hustler Hollywood, and Oklahoma City is its latest location."We offer things for anyone who wants to spice up their sex life," said Hustler Chief Marketing Officer Theresa Flynt, "we really target couples."The store is at 500 S. Meridian Ave and will sell lingerie, DVDs, gifts and adult toys. Employees say their products are for everyone."We have all kinds of people come in, anybody from school teachers to truck drivers," Flynt said. But other businesses in the area aren't so sure about that."When we realized what it was it was kind of like a shock to us," said Ruth Abraham, an employee at the Biltmore Hotel. The Biltmore Hotel is located directly across the street. And employees worry about the store's effect on their business. "I think it's probably gonna stop a lot of kids and family members, cause they don't want their kids to be exposed to a shop like this," Abraham said.A grand opening celebration will happen at the end of the month, but doors will open next Thursday. And some think nothing of it, like Bryce Randall."I mean it's just a store," he said. But Biltmore employees say their more conservative customers may not return. "I do think it could be a negative impact," Abraham said.Hustler's response: its stores do well in conservative landscapes."I can tell you that the other adult stores in the Midwest are successful, so I think that people just don't want to admit that they want to go in and buy it and that they're curious, or else those other stores wouldn't even exist," Flynt said. She says they are just trying to help couples find a good time. The grand opening plans include an appearance by performer Ron Jeremy, hustler honey models and free giveaways. It's scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 28. Larry Flynt plans to visit the store later this summer.
