Google criticized for searching user email

Google is coming under criticism for searching user's email and finding child porn. The company says it discovered one of its users in Houston, John Henry Skillern, was emailing child pornography.

Police say Google spotted three allegedly pornographic images of children in Skillern's email and had alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Police arrested Skillern after obtaining a warrant and found more evidence of child pornography on Skillern's devices. Google says it can search through your email and even changed its privacy settings to explicitly allow the search of email content. The company says it only uses the technology to identify child sexual abuse images, not other content which could be associated with criminal activity, but many people Google users are conflicted about the issue.
