Police confirm one fatality following multiple vehicle wreck in Bethany

One person is dead and one arrested following a fiery five-car collision in Bethany Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to NW 28th and Rockwell around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Initial reports indicate a U-Haul truck and four other cars collided before rupturing a main gas line. The gas line ignited upon impact of the vehicles.

Two vehicles were engulfed in flames after the gas line was ignited. Upon arrival at the scene, Bethany fire personnel discovered a person trapped inside one of the fully engulfed vehicles.

Crews were unable to save the person and they were declared dead at the scene.

While investigating the collision, Bethany police officers determined the driver of one of the vehicles, 28-year-old Wesley Early, may have been under the influence of an intoxicant.

After further investigation by a Drug Recognition Expert, Early was arrested on probably cause for First Degree Manslaughter.
