Four Oklahoma Airport Towers To Be Closed

The sequester cuts will close four air traffic control towers in Oklahoma.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released the list of 149 federal contract towers that will be closed beginning April 7. In Oklahoma four airports will be affected by the closures. Nationwide 24 contract towers are slated to remain open.

The four Oklahoma airports to be closed are Wiley Post and the University of Oklahoma Max Westheimer Airport in the metro area, the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport and the Stillwater Regional Airport. The Ardmore Municipal Airport is also a contract tower but it is one of 16 federal contract towers that will fall under a "cost share" program that will allow it to remain open. This program comes under funds set aside by Congressional statute. Those funds are subject to sequestration but the cuts implemented will not result in tower closures.

The Enid Woodring Regional Airport is one of the 24 contract towers that will remain open.
