Former Edmond soldier convicted of murder to be released from custody

A soldier from Edmond who was convicted of unpremeditated murder in a combat zone will be released later this year.

Former U.S. Army 1st Lt. Michael Behenna's mother, Vicki, told FOX 25 Wednesday that her son won parole and will be released from custody in Fort Leavenworth on March 14.

The 30-year-old Edmond native was convicted in 2009 of killing and Iraqi man with al Qaida connections while questioning him. After serving five years of a 15-year sentence, he was granted parole in his first year of eligibility.

Vicki Behenna said the family is thrilled to have their son return home.
