Edmond PD: man arrested in murder-for-hire plot against ex-wife
The Edmond Police Department says a man has been arrested for trying to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife and her boyfriend.
David Wayne Sawyer, 47, was arrested by the Edmond Police Department on Tuesday after the victim came forward to police.
According to a report filed with the Edmond POlice Department, the victim notified police that she was receiving messages from an unknown person that her ex-husband was hiring someone to kill her. That unknown person ended up being her landlord, a California resident.
The landlord told police that Sawyer had told him that he wanted someone to kill the victim and her boyfriend. According to the police report, Sawyer stated he wanted them dead because he believed his children were being sexually abused by the boyfriend. Edmond Police Department and Department of Human Services investigated the claims and say they are unfounded.
The landlord said he was concerned Sawyer was serious about his claims so he began texting with him, pretending to be a hit man, from a different number.
According to the police report, the landlord received a message from Sawyer that suggested he kill the victim and her boyfriend. Sawyer allegedly wanted the hit man to make it look like a murder-suicide so the insurance money would go to the children and Sawyer would have control of it.
Sawyer, a resident of The Village, was arrested at his home and taken to the Edmond Police Department where he was questioned. Edmond police say during the interview, Sawyer admitted to discussing the plot with the man he believed to be a hit man and agreed to pay him for killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend.
Sawyer was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
