Dialect maps show the variety of American English

A set of dialect maps by a North Carolina State University graduate student has taken the Internet by storm.

The maps, by Joshua Katz, show just how much American English varies from region to region.

The maps answer questions like "What is your generic term for a sweetened, carbonated beverage?" and "What do you call the miniature lobster that on finds in lakes and streams?"

Check out a selection of the maps here!
