Christmas tree may have sparked early morning fire in Edmond

Edmond firefighters battled a fire early Monday morning at a home near Santa Fe & Covell in the Cheyenne Crossing neighborhood.

The homeowner says their smoke alarms woke them up around 3:50 a.m.

They discovered their Christmas tree in the front room was on fire.

Firefighters put the fire out quickly, but there is extensive smoke damage in the home.

      No injuries are reported.

While investigators are trying to figure out what caused this real tree to catch on fire, they have an important reminder for this time of year. Make sure you water your tree daily and turn off your tree lights before leaving or going to bed.
