Boston Dynamics WildCat runs like an animal, stops on a dime
A company known for making nature-inspired robots is back, this time creating a robot that can run on all types of terrain.
Boston Dynamics has made several incredible bots: the cinder-block-throwing BigDog, the building jumping SandFlea, and the faster-than-Usain Bolt Cheetah. The Cheetah ran a 20-meter split at 28.3 MPH, Bolt ran the same distance at 27.78 MPH.
But the Cheetah required a boom arm and a tether, this one, named WildCat, can run free and hits speeds of 16 MPH. It also stops on a dime, can gallop and bound, and makes graceful turns.
WildCat is being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA's M3 program.
