Baby rhino born at Oklahoma City Zoo

The Oklahoma City Zoo announces the birth of an Indian rhinoceros. The birth was recorded at 5:20 p.m. Saturday evening to mother Niki. Niki is seven years old and a resident of the zoo since 2009. The father, Chandra, 28, has been at the zoo since 1990.The baby rhino, a male, was the first offspring for Niki but the fourth Indian rhino born at the OKC zoo.A release from the zoo states the Indian rhinoceros is native to northeast India and Nepal and is considered endangered. The first few days of the baby rhino's life are important as the calf starts to nurse on a regular basis and the mother learns how to care for the calf.The zoo will have the Pachyderm building closed for a few days so they can monitor the new born calf and mother.
