$1 billion Oklahoma City budget includes 40 new police positions

Oklahoma City's finest will soon be adding more men and women to the ranks after the city approved a budget of more than one billion dollars that includes 40 new positions with the police department.The Oklahoma City Council approved a $1.104 billion budget for fiscal year 2014-2015. The budget adds 40 new police positions, 33 of which are uniformed officers, bringing the total number of uniformed officers to 1,149. Other departments with significant personnel additions include: Development Services (12), Utilities (10), Parks (9) and Fire (7).The total city employees will increase increase 2.0 percent to 4,672. Included in the budget is $415 million that pays for most of the people, materials, and supplies to keep the city running. It also includes $1.35 million to enhance EMBARK, formerly known as METRO transit. The funding will extend bus service for two routes until midnight.
